Lots of firsts this month!

This is my month for many firsts. I am sitting up without adult help for the first time... with the assistance of a Bumbo chair! It is the greatest thing. I like to see the world from a new view and this chair helps me. Grandma Carolyn and Grandpa Dallas picked it up for me when they came to visit last weekend. I am also using my Johnny Jump-up to strengthen my legs. Mom and Dad call it Jessa Jump-up. Most of the time I just sit there and spin in circles. I haven't quite got the hang of it.
I have also started to eat my first solids. And unlike any other 5 month old, I started with prunes! (Due to my BM probs I still have.) I love it!!! By the third night I was opening my mouth wide and yelling when it didn't come fast enough. Every once in a while they are a bit sour - hence the funny face. I also like to grab the spoon and shove it in my mouth. Anything to help it get in my belly! I have now tried the old standby rice cereal and this week Mom promises to let me try some veggies. Green beans and carrots here I come!

This weekend I am also experiencing my first illness. I woke up at 11 pm last night crying and struggling to breathe because my nose was stuffy. The drainage makes me cough and gag sometimes. It was hard to sleep all night so I kept my parents up most of it. Today I yell when I see mom coming with the nose aspirator. Stuffy nose go away - I don't like to get my sinus cavity sucked out!

Summer is over... boo hoo!

Our summer vacation has officially ended. Emily and Ashley are going back to "school", Mom and Dad went back to work this week, and I went off to my day care place. I miss them, but I actually really like Irene's house. I am the youngest and love to watch the older kids play. I get so involved watching that I forget to fuss for a nap. But once Irene picks me up and takes me to my room, I go right to sleep.
I am getting so strong now that I really want to sit up. No more reclining! I am not quite strong enough to do it myself, but I try. I like to make new sounds, smile, and squeal in delight. I can also laugh a little now. Everyone really gets a kick out of it.
Here I am practicing for when I get to drive and order food at a drive-up window - preferably Nipps. "Burgers and fries please!" (P.S. - I haven't figured out which side of the car to order out of yet. Guess maybe I am practicing for a foreign country since I am hanging out the right side.)
